As a casual traveller to the US, I am always looking for ways to stay connected affordably and Roam Mobility has been my consistent go to provider. They offer a mix of plans to suit everyone and the pricing is extremely competitive.

The only complaint I would hear was around buying one of their special roaming sim cards. Now you can pickup their products at any one of the 265 Futureshop or Bestbuy locations across Canada ( Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland).

If you're a Canadian travelling to the US on vacation or for work, I strongly recommend you check out their products and services.

BestBuy is kicking off another organizational restructuring to "optimize its retail footprint" (link)

They have now announced another 950 full-time employee layoffs (from both BestBuy & Futureshop brands). They will be consolidating departments.

The company has said “We have seen our online sales grow by more than 50 per cent in the past year and new services such as in-store reserve and pick up more than doubling. These changes in the way our customers are interacting with us have led us to look at how to best deploy our staff to meet those evolving needs.”

In an attempt to copy the Apple model of incredible sales, Microsoft will be expanding its Microsoft Store inside BestBuys by bringing this model to the great Canadian North. Over 100 of these new stores-inside-a-store will pop up across Canada in Best Buy and Futureshops.

These stores will be staffed with specially trained sales and technical specialists to convince you that everyone should own a Surface tablet and should be running Windows 8.1.

The New Nexus 7 is here - $229 for 16GB

Like other tech lovers, I was excited when I heard rumors that Google would be refreshing its best selling Nexus 7 tablet.

Google will likely announce the new Nexus 7 later today but it seems Best Buy wanted to be first and has the product up for pre-order already. The new Nexus 7 comes in the 16 & 32 GB varieties (WIFI only).

What are the specs? I thought you would never ask:

  • 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 7-inch, 1920x1200 display
  • 16/32GB of storage
  • 1.2MP front-facing canera, 5MP rear camera
  • Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS
  • Bluetooth 4.0 support
  • Wifi 802.11 a/b/g/n
It defintely is an upgrade from last year's model but is it enough to push existing users to upgrade?
