Quebec's Videotron has become a very fierce competitor in the Quebec wireless services market. The end of September ended another great quarter with more subscribers and higher ARPU (Average Revenue per subscriber),

38000 new subscribers call Videotron wireless home (bringing the annual total to more than 111000). ARPU increased 6.5% year over year.

Videotron's newly deployed LTE network (touches 90% of Quebecers) has been a huge success and is delivering speeds of up to 150Mbps. The analyst call also referred to discussions with Wind Mobile. I think a purchase of Wind by Videotron would be a fantastic move for the company and for consumers.

Videotron won spectrum in the 700Mhz auction in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and BC. Let's see if growth ambitions push Videotron to compete ocean to ocean.

Videotron has been a fierce competitor in the wireless space in Quebec and has forced other wireless carriers  into creating Quebec only low cost monthly plans to stay competitive. This is exactly what the Canadian government wanted to do when they decided to foster competition.

Videotron spent a cool $500M  during the last AWS auction spectrum (for Quebec and some parts of Ontario). The latest stats indicate that they have picked up about 500,000 loyal wireless subscribers making them the 6th largest Canadian wireless carrier.

Now we learn that a Scotia Bank analyst, Jeff Fan, believes Videotron has signed an NDA with Mobility to explore a potential asset purchase. If this is indeed true, then it means Videotron may have expansion plans outside of the province.

Mobility has a limited footprint in Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver with approximately 175,000 sibscribers.

Videotron is also bidding in the highly desirable 700Mhz auction so time will tell how all of this plays out.

Competition is a wonderful thing for consumers and nowhere is this more needed than in the Canadian telecommunication business. Videotron has been a wonderful addition to the Quebec market forcing the BIG 3 (Rogers, Bell and Telus) to respond quickly by offering much more competitive plans [than they would normally].

Videotron has introduced 2 new all you can talk Canada Wide plans. These plans include all of the usual suspects including Voicemail, CallerID, Text Messaging and Canada wide calling. The only difference between the 2 is the amount of monthly data : 1GB or 6GB ($59.95 and $79.95 respectively).
